Huawei Pura 70 Pro Quick Review – Top Notch Photography Experience

-

The Huawei Pura 70 series is the smartphone that can definitely prove that Huawei is dead serious about photography. The newest series proved that the company can lead into innovation despite their challenges like the separation of their partnership with LEICA.

Huawei Pura 70 Pro – Design and Display

When you see the Huawei Pura 70 Pro, the design is very similar to their previous releases with just an exception to the new camera module design that represents the Fashion Forward attitude of the brand.

The display is a must see LTPO OLED panel with a variable refresh rate of 1-120Hz, everything just looks sharp and vivid compared to regular OLED smartphones. This is thanks to additional details of higher resolution of 2844 × 1260 Pixels and thin but durable Kunlun Glass which can withstand a heavy beating more than the previous generation.

Trust us, even us tried to smash two Pura 70 Pros into a strong clap each other and the glass survived and didn’t even got a scratch at all.

The curved front display and tapered curved edges at the back panel is clean to see, with the chrome coated metal frame which compliments the overall premium look and feel of the device.

Huawei Pura 70 Pro – Performance

Running on the Kirin 9010 Processor the Pura 70 can keep up on most applications and multi-tasking scenarios you may do. We like the Snappy performance to do most applications you may use, even with the GBox application is running constantly to make you use Google Applications.

The triple camera system with high megapixels and efficient software algorithm using the dedicated Xmage software algorithm system delivers a smooth camera experience that is 85% friendly to just point and shoot.

  • 50 MP Ultra Lighting Camera (F1.4~F4.0 aperture, OIS)
  • 12.5 MP Ultra-Wide Angle Camera (F2.2 aperture)
  • 48 MP Ultra Lighting Macro Telephoto Camera (F2.1 aperture, OIS)

Even far away images taken using the Huawei Pura 70 Pro via the periscope lens is acceptable, other smartphones will simply be highly pixelated and noisy already in the same condition.

We just noticed that the Pura 70 is a bit soft when it comes to subjects that is detecting too much black. Here you can see the black matte stage and Gary V’s black outfit flooded the composition 80% dark and only the lights from the spotlight is giving context but its just way too harsh. Nevertheless the shot is still successful with acceptable details for social posting.

Tight shots in close subjects are great with a texture will captured. The signature Huawei sharpness is still implemented, but we noticed that the color range greatly improved in capturing color accuracy thus the Pura 70 Pro can represent more real-life photos unlike other smartphones that exaggeratedly increase the saturation for vividness.

Huawei Pura 70 Pro – Highly Efficient Battery

The Pura 70 Pro is a tank in endurance thanks to the efficient Kirin 9010 processor that is optimized for the EMUI software. A whole day of use in a heavy mode will more or less consume around 70%, leaving you sufficient buffer for intensive occasions like taking videos or doing livestreams.

We appreciate the software efficiency of the Huawei Pura 70 Pro that even an overnight sleep standby is will just drain 1-2% in battery. Also since this unit having no 5G connectivity, the smartphone can be more stable in mobile data which is less heat and lower consumption.

Charging the Pura 70 Pro is relatively easy and worry free with full charge in less than 30 minutes thanks to the 100W Super Charger. Thanks to this, battery anxiety is almost impossible already, though for us we just do this 100W charging at home and use a Power Delivery charger outside to avoid the cumbersome of bringing another brick.

Huawei Pura 70 Pro – Conclusion

Huawei’s approach to the Pura 70 Pro is indeed noble that we are confident in even using the camera in even the most challenging scenarios like a concert. Add the ridiculous periscope lens that actually delivers detailed shots, then we think this can be your smartphone photography choice especially in concerts.

Huawei Pura 70 Review (3)

As a smartphone overall, the Huawei Pura 70 Pro is a flagship smartphone that is still acceptable, though there isn’t any 5G capability for this one…you can still get LTE-A speeds of 100+ Mbps and honestly you even get longer battery life cause being in LTE avoids excessive heat from 5G.

Feel is definitely flagship with a goop to grip sandblasted glass, metal frame, and curved screen display, though we just wanted to say to Huawei that hopefully they can fully solve the corner edge touch to avoid unwanted inputs being ignored. Aside from that, the Pura 70 Pro is fast, snappy and can deliver your hunger for everyday use as well.

Pura means forward according to Huawei, indeed they pushed and marched forward to continue delivering their best with the latest P series…I mean Pura Series. Priced at Php59,999 with freebies worth Php18,000, the Huawei Pura 70 Pro is tempting especially if you are very peculiar when it comes to camera capabilities.
