Nowadays, battery capacity is one of the main standards when choosing a smartphone. People want to buy the highest battery capacity to prevent the hassle of sticking it in a power cord so they can be on-the-go always. This is also one of the reasons why people are avoiding the iPhone, because as everyone knows, Apple is behind the competition when it comes to battery life.

But now, Apple may have something to defeat every competitors – a British company has made a working prototype of a hydrogen fuel system that can run an iPhone for at least one week.

As reported by The Telegraph, Intelligent Energy’s system can fit inside a normal iPhone 6, but some small ventilations must be added to allow the release of a small discharge of water vapor. They are exploring multiple ways to bring the system to consumer, the company stated.

The current prototype uses hydrogen gas, it is then charged through a modified headphone jack. The company is still coming up with ways to create a disposable cartridge filled with hydrogen to charge again the iPhone for up to a week.

So if it really is made and released to the market, it would mean that the phone no longer needs to be connected to a power cord and it is your choice if you want to charge the hydrogen battery or use the existing Li-on battery to use as a backup power.

Intelligent Energy is also rumored to be working closely with Apple to integrate their system in future products. The company also stated that they are close to an actual product that can already be released to the market, the ball is now on the side of Apple whether how quick will it be implemented.
