Indonesia has announced that they have banned the sales of Google Pixel smartphones, days after blocking the iPhone 16.
Both Google Pixel smartphones and the iPhone 16 have been banned in Indonesia because they have not complied with the country’s regulation where 40% of communication devices’ components are to be sourced locally.
Officially, however, Google is not being distributed in Indonesia.
Industry minister spokesperson said “We are pushing these rules so that there’s fairness for all investors in Indonesia.” He added that “Google’s products have not adhered to the scheme we set, so they can’t be sold here.”
Anyone residing in Indonesia can still buy the smartphones through overseas means, so long as they pay the necessary taxes. They are considering deactivating devices that are illegally sold.
