Infinix has unveiled their next generation charging technology – the 180W Thunder Charge. Thunder Charge can fill up a 4,500mAh battery to 50% in just 4 minutes. The brand is promising that their fastest charging tech will be debuting later this year on a new flagship smartphone.
The Thunder Charge system will use two 8C battery cells with lower internal resistance. This reduces more than 50% of the internal resistance and produces less heat. The batteries will also be charged 90W each instead of a single battery receiving 180W to reduce heat and increase longevity.
Safety is a key priority for Thunder Charge. It employs 111 software and hardware security protection mechanisms to protect smartphones, chargers, and charging cables. Its protection is triggered during abnormal scenarios such as high temperature, increased voltage, electromagnetic interference, and more – to ensure the safety of the smartphone and its user.
Thunder Charge also has 20 temperature sensors distributed in USB inputs, charging chips, on the battery, and other locations inside the device. Charging is monitored real-time through a temperature control algorithm, which keeps track of everything. Temperature is kept below 43°c while the device is charging to keep heat down and lessen battery degradation.
To ensure that chargers can handle the load, Infinix will use an encryption chip to verify the cable’s authenticity. Other cables can still be used but power will be capped to either 60W or 100W depending on the cable.
Smartphones that sport Infinix’s 180W Thunder Charge will arrive within the second half of the year. Details are yet to be announced for these devices.
