Intel has officially launched their range of 11th Generation Rocket Lake-S processors for desktop. Composed of the usual Core i9, Core i7, and Core i5 range, they offer fewer cores than some of their predecessors but promises better performance thanks to significant increase in IPC.
The Intel 11th Generation processors are based on the Cypress Cove architecture that promises up to 19% compared to Comet Lake-S processors from last year. Its integrated graphics gets an upgrade as well to the Intel Iris Xe architecture to boost performance by up to 50 percent.
While instructions per cycle has been increased, core count has been lowered. From the 10-core, 20-thread flagship offering i9-10900K, Rocket Lake-S’ i9 series now come with only 8 cores and 16 threads while the i7 and i5 processors stays the same at 8 cores and 16 threads and 6 cores and 12 threads, respectively.
