It’s no secret that Intel is being backed into a corner with AMD’s efforts in the CPU space. Aiming to claw back some territory in 2021, Intel is teasing one of their latest flagship mainstream processors – the Rocket Lake S-based Core i9-11900K – at CES 2021.
Intel is claiming that they will have a 19% IPC increase in their 11th Generation of processors. The Intel Core i9-11900K will be launched in an 8-core, 16-thread configuration and is said to beat the AMD Ryzen 9 5900X with the same RTX 3080 GPU in games reaching up to 5.3GHz dual-core boost and 4.8GHz on all cores.
Rocket Lake-S processors will also be bringing official support for PCIe 4.0 into the Intel platform as well as faster support for RAM. Integrated graphics will be upgraded to the Xe Graphics architecture, which aims to deliver 50% more performance compared to Comet Lake-S.
Despite the alleged uplift in performance, Rocket Lake-S processors will still be based on a 14nm lithography like previous Intel processors. These processors will be accompanied with new 500-series motherboards but will also be supported by existing 400-series boards.
Intel says that their Rocket Lake-S lineup of processors are expected to launch within the first quarter of 2021. They have not shared official availability and pricing at this time so we are going to have to wait a bit for more details.
