iPhone 8 and 8 Plus goes official, comes with wireless charging and A11 6-core SoC

After months of leaks, Apple’s latest iterations of the iPhone have finally arrived. Taking the form of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, both smartphones come with improvements one would expect from the California-based firm.

Both iPhones are built from aerospace-grade aluminum to improve durability while the rear has now been equipped with a glass back to give support for Qi wireless charging. The new handsets are also engineered to resist water and dust. In terms of audio, Apple has redesigned the iPhone’s speakers to deliver up to 25% louder audio.

Meanwhile, the screens are now Retina HD display with True Tone to adjust the white balance of the surrounding light for a more natural viewing experience. A wider color gamut has also been implemented on the smartphones for improved color accuracy.

Inside the iPhone 8 is Apple’s A11 Bionic processor. The 6-core CPU comes with two performance cores that are 25% faster than the A10 fusion while the four efficiency cores run 70% faster than the previous A10 Fusion. All-in-all, the A11 Bionic processor can deliver 70% better performance in multi-threaded workloads for a smoother computing experience.

The iPhone 8 has also been designed with AR in mind. Together with its cameras and the three-core GPU on the A11 Bionic, the new iPhone can deliver 30% faster GPU performance than the previous iPhone, which enables better implementation of AR in the real world.

Speaking of its cameras, the iPhone 8 comes with a 12MP camera with OIS while the iPhone 8 Plus comes with dual 12MP cameras (f/1.8 and f/2.8) with OIS. The secondary camera on the latter acts as a telephoto lens, which also enables Portrait Lighting to be implemented on the iPhone 8 Plus. Video has also been improved with its new encoder allowing the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus to record 40K at 60fps or 1080p at 240fps for that sweet, sweet slow motion action.

Both smartphones will ship on September 22, 2017. Both iPhones will come in 64GB and 256GB variants with the iPhone 8’s price starting at USD 699 (PhP 36,000) while the iPhone 8 Plus will set you back USD 799 (PhP 41,000). Both models will come in Silver, Space Gray, and Blush Gold colors.
