JBL Philippines recently launched their portable speakers lineup and one of them is the JBL Flip 7 , which is just one of the portable speakers of the brand. Particularly this speaker is around 35W of power, which is powerful enough for a small audience, or fill a room.
We brought it to a trip to borcay for a quick R&R, I was honestly impressed with the new JBL Flip 7 because of the following reasons
Admit it or not, the common impression when it comes to JBL speakers is that they are loud and the bass is really strong, that also includes my self as well. While we Filipinos have an obsession with bass, this approach muffles some frequency that results to possibly some instruments or vocals to be less heard.
We think that this is all thanks to JBL implementing a software layer with their audio system with their JBL Signature Equalizer Profile and AI Sound Boost technology. Thanks to this implementation the JBL Flip 7 is now more adaptive to the environment and actual music / sound playing through the speaker.
During my time in Boracay, unfortunately we had power outages that went for hours, luckily the JBL Flip 7 easily filled the gym around the size of a 40sqm area. Particularly the Flip 7 now takes advantage of its environments through the subwoofer resonating better to its surroundings, simply put the Flip 7 is much better placed in corners to give it a better soundstage audio.
When it comes to playing in open spaces the directional speakers is loud enough to be satisfying with clarity, even high treble audio frequencies isn’t ringing anymore to your ears. Definitely JBL is able to make a whole new impression for their latest iteration of Flip series.
Once you pair the JBL Flip 7 to your phone, you will be invited to download the JBL Portable App which can let your customize the Equalizer settings, modify settings to extend battery life, pair to another JBL speaker via the Auracast feature. Lastly, even software updates are done via the app.
You can also do the AuraCast pairing with other JBL speakers without the app, the dedicated AuraCast button is just needed to be hold for a few seconds and pairing it close with the source speaker.
We observed that the JBL Flip 7 has a slightly more curvature body, making it easier to hold at the center body of the speaker. Plus the body now rolls less thanks to much more tactile rubber stopper, including the rubber control buttons that acts also a stopper so it won’t roll either side.
The JBL Flip 7 features rubberized corners on each side of the subwoofer chambers, while the access port module for the USB-C Port isn’t covered anymore despite being rated IP68 already. You are also provided with two latches that is interchageable which can make the Fip 7 versatile to be carried or hanged in via the included hook. Another nice gesture from the brand that we appreciate.
JBL Philippines now offers a wider range of color options for the Flip 7, particularly the following
We liked this strategy of the brand as this sets the brand apart from the rest with more options to match your personality and style preference. Usually other brands only have around 3 colors which is usually black, orange, and red.
Of course a portable speaker isn’t one without the right battery, during our time using the Flip 7 in boracay we had to only charge it once. While its advertised for up to 16 hours of battery life, we think even around 10 is already remarkable especially in full volume.
The JBL Flip 7 may look similar to its predecessors, but it’s definitely new and revamped on the inside. Priced at Php7,999 it’s not more expensive versus it’s competitor brands, definitely JBL hit all the right points in making a better speaker with the Flip 7.
