Kingston’s newest generation of storage is set for the Ultra-HD future

-

When you hear Kingston, you’ll either remember MicroSD or USB storage right? Well, you’re not alone since we are too. During our visit in Computex 2018, Kingston toured us in our latest offerings in the market.

In the increasing demand for portable storage, Kingston is one of the brands that know about expandable storage. In the growing demand for ultra-HD content, the brand introduces their latest Canvas series that is ready for portable devices such as action cameras, smartphones, cameras and more.

Previously you may remember the class number like Class 4,6,8,10. Where Class 10 translates to 10MB/s transfer speeds. But at the age of smartphones having 4k recording capabilities, it takes more than that to record a high-resolution video and even in 60fps.

Select is for entry-level devices with 4K access like affordable action cameras or mid-range smartphones. While Go! is designed for powerful action cameras, DLSR, flagship smartphones, etc. Lastly is the react which is designed for high-class devices that need big resolution transfers but so far in the Philippines it’s usage isn’t that wide.

A1 rating is the latest standard for storages to determine the capacity of the storage for continuous running of applications. This means that speed is not also a factor but also stability which is measured in IOPS (input-output access per second).

  • Random Read: 1500 IOPS
  • Random Write: 500 IOPS
  • Sustained Sequential Write: 10 megabytes per second

Additionally, Kingston is present inside devices such as tablets, Snapchat Spectacles, smartphones and even smartwatches. Something you may not know, but something Kingston is already been doing ever since.

Additionally, Kingston demonstrated their PCI-E Express type storage with 1TB storage composed of two Gen 3.0 512GB NVMe SSD. To give the power of these storages, the company demonstrated 81 4K resolution videos being played in one TV simultaneously.

While this demonstration isn’t that powerful since its static, playing 81 4K videos is a tough task for a bottleneck storage PC. This is mainly more for enterprise servers for largely based servers for fast data-access.

Additionally, Kingston is also venturing into enterprise route by providing more solutions to corporate companies defending their precious data. USB sticks with IP water and shock resistance and an additional layer of security. They also have SSDs available for enterprises which have wider compatibility for older systems and after-sales support.
