LG exits Chinese smartphone market, puts blame on local competition

-

China is a breeding ground for new technology and businesses to emerge from. They also house the biggest smartphone manufacturers in the world such as Huawei, OPPO, and Vivo. This results in some smartphones being overshadowed by others. LG has also felt the tremendous competition in China, which led to their mobile division officially quitting the Chinese smartphone market.

LG’s mobile division has experienced losses for the last 11 quarters aside from their small profit in the first quarter of 2017. Despite this loss, LG’s consumer electronics division will continue their business in China.

Meanwhile, North America remains as the largest market for LG despite stiff competition from Apple and Samsung. Huawei is also making a move in the United States with their appointment of Gal Gadot as their Chief Experience Officer.

LG is expected to skip their announcement of the LG G7 on MWC 2018. Opting in to release an upgrade variant of the LG V30, the LG V30+.
