LG G6 First Impressions: Top Features

LG is the first smartphone company to release a flagship phone this year. With the LG G6, the company is going back to their roots. No fancy modular features, just a plain old phone that’s sure to deliver. Here are the specs:

5.7-inch QHD+ FullVisison display @ 2880 x 1440, 565ppi
Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 2.4GHz quad-core processor
Adreno 530 graphics

expandable via microSD up to 2TB
LTE-A 3 Band CA up to 600 Mbps
13MP f/1.8 and 13MP f/2.2 Wide-angle Rear cameras with Dual LED Flash
5MP f/2.2 Wide-angle front camera

IP68 Dust and Water resistance
Dolby Vision
HDR 10
Fingerprint Sensor
32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC Chip
USB Type-C 2.0

Android 7 Nougat with LGUX 6.0
3,300mAh battery (non-removable)
148.9 x 71.9 x 7.9mm (dimensions)
163 gram (weight)

Right out of the box, the first thing that you’ll notice with the LG G6 is its beautiful and stunning display. It’s bigger at 5.7-inches but with almost-to-none bezels, it’s still comfortable with one hand.

Similar to the Samsung S8, LG also had the guts to change the aspect ration to a solid 18:9 screen. With this equal ratio, you can multitask between two apps with an exact square shape that will be easy to use. This is one of the features that LG highlighted during the launch. The screen also features a full Dolby Vision Certification (For watching HDR videos from Netflix and Amazon.)

Some notable features of the G6 is it is now IP68 dust and water resistant, joining companies like Sony and Samsung on waterproofed smartphones.

You’ll also see the signature dual camera setup found at the back — 13-megapixel camera with f/1.8 aperture and a 13-megapixel wide-angle camera — where you can, of course, switch between the two seamlessly. The camera bumps that were found in the previous G5 is long gone.

All in all, the LG G6 is a nice flagship smartphone from the company. They obviously played it safe this time — focusing more on the solidity of the phone rather than creating something unique. While also reviewing the Galaxy S8, I find it more comfortable to use than the infinity edge display. But that’s going to be subjective.

Right now, LG just announced their Pre-Order for the LG G6 where you can get a premium LG Tone Bluetooth headset, LG G6 case and extended warranty for 1 year. More details here.
