After rumors of its demise, LG has now confirmed that their mobile phone business will be shutting down worldwide. They will now be focusing their efforts in other key areas like smart homes, robotics, AI, and other markets.
LG’s mobile arm will officially close down on July 31. Existing owners of LG handsets will continue to receive support for an unspecified amount of time as of now and their inventory of smartphones will still be available for sale in markets that had them before the shutdown.
Despite their exit in the smartphone market, LG will be redoubling their efforts in mobile expertise by developing related technologies such as 6G, which they hope will strengthen their competitiveness in other areas in the market.
