LG Philippines Mobile smartphone business is now officially closed, the company will focus on electronic products such as TVs, refrigerators, air-conditioners, washing machines and even entertainment appliances.
We saw this trend when their store in SM Megamall was seen closed last November 2018, the dealer store MemoXpress handling the store also removed all visual merchandise materials of the brand across all their 150+ branches. Asking friends in the industry confirms the exit of the mobile smartphone business due to weak demand.
LG’s last effort was the LG G7 ThinQ where it featured the famous Korean boy band BTS as endorsers but still failed to regain traction due to heavy competition from Chinese brands and lack of after-sales support.
We’ve seen all display modules of LG in dealer stores trimmed down with the spaces even utilized by other brands such as Honor, Meizu, Realme and etc. It’s a sad turnout of events for 2018 since LG is one of the first brands to bring Android smartphones in the country. We still remember the brand its strong G2, G3 and especially with their famous bonanza of the LG Optimus One 50% sale gained the company in SM Megamall last November 2010.
Looking forward to 2019, the competition is definitely is fierce and are there any more brands following? There is news that Sony is toning down while Motorola is also losing presence in stores. While on the other hand, we are seeing more visibility for Xiaomi, Honor, Meizu, Realme and even Alcatel.
