Mayweather vs Pacquiao: May 2, MGM Grand

The long awaited Mayweather Jr. vs Pacquiao will finally ensue after various failed negotiations. The undefeated Mayweather will be going against 8 division champ, pro-basketball player, law maker, actor, religious leader and singer Pacquiao on May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Last Feb. 16, it was reported that the Filipino boxer already signed the contract which was turned over to Mayweather for his own confirmation, but numerous sources denied the fact that the showdown was anything but signed. Mayweather proved that it was real when he made the announcement on Friday afternoon on Shot (a social media platform which he is an investor) that indeed the fight was on.

With an estimate of around 400 million USD total earnings for the fight; Mayweather vs Pacquaio will be splitting the money 60-40 respectively and is expected to shatter every revenue record in boxing history. Both Showtime, where Mayweather is under contract with; and HBO, where Pacman is under contract with will be producing and distributing a joint pay-per-view telecast.

“Manny is going to try to do what 47 before him failed to do, but he won’t be successful. He will be number 48.” – Mayweather

Floyd “Money” Mayweather is the highest paid athlete with 47 wins, 26 of those our knockouts and has won five weight class titles with an olympic bronze medal dangling from his neck. He is known for his defensive skills by weaving to create space and avoid punches. Manny “Pacman” Pacquio on the other hand has 57 wins 5 loses and 2 draws with 38 knockouts on his belt. He is the only boxer in history to win world titles in eight weight division and is known for his speed, power and aggressive style. He recently joined the PBA to become a professional basketball player, a congressman, an actor, singer and a religious leader.

Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs), a 36-year-old southpaw known for his speed, power and aggressive style, became the only boxer in history to win world titles in eight weight divisions — flyweight, junior featherweight, featherweight, junior lightweight, lightweight, junior welterweight, welterweight and junior middleweight — while also generating hundreds of millions of dollars and being elected to congress in his native Philippines, where he is a national icon.

Who do you think will win? Could the fast talkin’ Mayweather finally put a period on the Pacman’s boxing career, or could the Filipino boxer shut the American once and for all? Share your predictions by talking to us via our comment box below.
