MediaTek has introduced two new chips made for Generative AI: the Genio 720 and Genio 520. These additions to the Genio lineup support generative AI models, human machine interface, multimedia, and connectivity features for home, retail, industrial, and commercial IoT devices.
Both the Genio 720 and Genio 520 come with up to 10 TOPS with built-in MediaTek 8th Generation Neural Processing Unit (NPU) offering full hardware acceleration for transformer and convolutional neural network models.
Additionally, the support up to 16GB of LPDDR5 memory for data-intensive models like Llama, Gemini, Phi, and DeepSeek to accelerate generative AI tasks. They are also backed by MediaTek’s global AI ecosystem so developers can take advantage of global language models and common frameworks to quickly deploy AI applications.
Built on a 6nm process node, they integrate an octa-core CPU with two Arm Cortex-A78 processors and six Cortex-A55 processors to optimize performance and power efficiency. This setup makes them suitable for low-power usage such as mobile devices with fanless enclosures and battery-powered operation.
The Genio 720 and Genio 520 also supports Open Standard Module (OSM) with reference designs that ensure power and signal integrity to shorten development cycle in OSM. MediaTek is planning to launch OSM solutions based on these chips in the second half of the year.
Additional features of Genio 720 and Genio 520 include:
These chips will be sampling to customers starting Q2 2025. More details can be found on their official website.
