Meet Trident : the functional, durable and resonably priced accessory brand

-

I know what you’re thinking, “Another case brand? Don’t we already have enough?” As much as the market is now overcrowded with accessories, you can never too much of mobile cases. It still a good opportunity for good competition to overall brings more options to consumers and makes everything cheaper.

Now we make that clear and beneficial for you, let’s do it again. Meet Trident, your newest iPhone accessory brand in the market. Trident is a mobile accessory brand that produces many varieties of cases for famous smartphones like Apple, Samsung in smartwatches, tablets and more.

Trident is more of a hybrid case/accessory brand, they don’t aim to slap everything into your device but make it more durable with options to remove the bulk. Right now, Synchronization Incorporated is the company that entered this brand in the Philippines and they wanted to try out first with Apple cases. They gave us samples to try out and here are our quick experience with some.

Kraken A.M.S – iPhone 7 & 7 Plus

The 1st thing that would pop into your mind is “What the heck is AMS?”, it means Adaptive Modular System which gives you up to 3 levels of protection for your device with an additional option for functionality with its modular slot.

Level 1 is this Kraken clear jelly case which is a bit thicker than most clear cases but provides good grip and design. At the back is a repetitive print of the trident logo with a minimal branding. The case covers the front with a lip, so it has better protection as well in the front.

Level 2 is adding the 2-in-1 case that has a front screen protector included. The edges are made of impact resistant material similar to the top of the line hard cases today. This gives the iPhone 7 Plus Military standard 810G protection which makes it resistant to dust/dirt, wind/rain, 6ft drops and everyday vibrations.

Assembly was pretty straight forward, corners have silicone flaps that snug into the front cover.  Removal was pretty easy too, as compared to rugged cases we have experienced before this is the easiest. Just remember that it doesn’t make your phone waterproof, it just ads an additional layer of protection and the iPhone 7 is already IP67 resistant anyways.

Yes, it’s thick, once you use the Level 2 protection you will need to operate the phone using two hands. But again, if you need one hand operation then just use the clear case or level 1 protection.

At the back of the case is even a metal kickstand which is also removable to interchange with other accessories to give different functions. Hence, this is the modular feature of the Kraken but remember that the accessories are sold separately.

The metal kickstand can be removed by sliding, it does need a bit of effort but nothing anyone serious about cases can’t handle. In our experience, we love the kickstand doesn’t slide when using. So you rest assured it’s good when watching or placing it on the table.

This is one of the modular accessories you can purchase, right now Kraken has a clip holder and bike mount available for optional purchase. Very handy if you work in a place that needs phones but not always in your hand or simply biking with the much-needed assurance durability.

Ports are covered with a rubber gasket, nothing too much of a problem as it doesn’t block any fittings into the device.

Level 3 is quite optional in our opinion, but this is best for fathers or utilitarians who needs their phone always hooked up. It comes with a 3rd layer case that has a 360 rotating clip, pretty good for traveling to hook up to your belt or bag.

Now the Kraken A.M.S series (iPhone 7 & 7 Plus) comes with the 3 layers case out of the box at a very competitive price of Php2,499 and the modular accessory sold separately for around Php1,000 – Php1,200. Very competitive in pricing as other brands with the same rating of protection goes Php3,000 and above, not to mention that the Kraken is removable in 3 layers for optional protection on different occasions.

Black, Red and Blue-Green are the available colors for the Kraken AMS series. Colors that aren’t too loud, but still shouts durability at one glance.

Now the only problem we encountered with this case is this

The front camera is covered by the clear screen protector, this might be an issue for selfies as its covered by half. The Synchronization representative will check if this is same for all cases or ours is just isolated. This is a problem for the glare in taking photos, much-unwanted light can simply enter the camera when the environment is too bright.

Kraken iPhone 6 Version

An earlier version of the Kraken AMS is also available for the iPhone 6 and 6S series. As compared to the new iPhone 7 generation, this one is only available in black without the jelly case and a few additional effort to open as the flaps are tightly fitted in the 2nd case.

The case has the same thickness as compared to the new generation but still carries the same problem we saw with the front camera being covered slightly. But in our tests, it didn’t affect the front camera performance so nothing to worry about that.

As you can see the circular rubber fittings secures the sides of the case. This results to a very tight fitting and we honestly used a philips screw to remove the case. Again, this is because it doesn’t have the jelly case as compared to the iPhone 7 series.

The Kraken iPhone 6, 6S version is also available in the market for Php2,499. For us, if you always remove your casing then don’t get this one. It’s available in neon green, neon pink, black and white.

But if you rarely remove a case and intend to keep it for a long time then, by all means…get it

 Cyclops and Aegis Series

Now if you are not a fan of the bulky cases, Trident also has more portable cases which are the Aegis and Cyclops. These have some of the properties of the Kraken but with more for preference.

Cyclops

Cyclops is similar to the Kraken without the modular feature and belt clip, meaning it has a dedicated front cover with screen protector which you cover up the whole smartphone.

Flaps are covered for the earphones and charging port. Overall rubber texture is average and protection, it does get a bit rough to pull out from your pocket at times. a

Cyclops color availability: White, Black, Green and Pink

Aegis

Aegis series, on the other hand, is a less serious case fit for the fashion conscious customers. It’s composed of a rubber wrap that snugs into a plastic frame for additional protection.

To add assurance, it comes with a free screen protector that you can assemble for peace of mind.

Aegis colors : Black, Pink, Green, Black , Red

Trident Electra Qi Case (Wireless Charging Case)

For the iPhone 6, Trident also has a wireless charging pad and case for Php2,499 each. The wireless charging pad uses Qi technology to charge at 1A output, considerably better than entry level charging base at 500mAh rating.

The pad is awesome with its carbon fiber finish wrap, it’s also compatible to other Qi wireless charging devices as well. Just a note is Apple is so strict about this, it seems Trident wasn’t able to insert an extension lightning port into the case, making it an hassle when connecting it to transfer data as you will have to remove it.

Other cases

Trident also has cases for the iPad Mini 4 and iPad Air 2 just in case you’re into tablets. They also have more affordable cases that range from Php849 – Php1000 with their Perseus and Krios series.
