Meta has announced on their Facebook blog that starting October 1, 2022, users will no longer be able to use Live Shopping events on Facebook. Facebook Live can still be used to broadcast live events, but users will not be able to create product playlists or tag products in Facebook live videos.

The company is shifting its efforts to focus on Reels on Facebook and Instagram reasoning that consumers’ behaviors are shifting to short-form videos. Users that need to reach and engage people through video can use Reels and Reel ads on Facebook and Instagram as they support tagging products.

Facebook Live Shopping began back in 2018 and has turned into a viable platform for online sellers in parts of Asia like the Philippines especially when the pandemic hit.

TikTok Shops, however, are quickly creeping in as users no longer need to tune in to a livestream but instead watch quick videos on items. Brands like realme and narzo have also turned to opening TikTok stores to get the attention of younger audiences.
