In Modern Warfare 2 (CODMW2 2022), players get to view the ending after finishing the last mission. What does this ending mean? Is there something to look out for in the next installment, in Modern Warfare 3? Read this to know more.
During the ending scene, the team celebrates in a bar in Chicago for wrapping up the conflict in the past few days. With Hassan dead, the team only has General Shepherd as their sole remaining target. However, during the conversation with Laswell, they were shown a photograph of a “bigger fish” compared to Shepherd. Laswell continues to say that the Russian ultra nationalists are now working with a new guy. A guy named Makarov.
In a post credits scene, while in an airplane, a passenger asks for a salad as his inflight meal. The passenger then proceeds to pull out parts and ultimately assembles them into a plastic pistol with the magazine located under the lid of his salad. He then proceeds to bring out his phone typing in “Ready” to someone with the name “M”. M then replies back with the words “No Russian”. The scene ends with the phone being dipped into soda with the passenger and those seated beside him rising up with their pistols drawn.
Makarov was first introduced in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 from 2009. He acts as the game’s main antagonist, instigating the war between the US and Russia. An extremely cunning and creative individual, Makarov stands as the ultimate villain to Task Force 141 in the old Modern Warfare games.
It is fair to say that it’s not unexpected to see Makarov in this new version of Modern Warfare. He’s an iconic antagonist for the franchise and we can’t help but see what would become of him and what he’s going to do in the next Modern Warfare.
No Russian is the infamous level in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 that tasks the player to massacre crowds of civilians in an airport as an act of terrorism. ‘No Russian’ pertains to the instruction given by the Makarov to his team during the start of the level which is for them to “(speak) no Russian”. The mission ends with Makarov shooting the player and leaving his body for the authorities to find. Given that the player character for the mission is an undercover CIA agent, the attack resulted in Russia thinking that the US sponsored the terrorist attack. This then led to Russia declaring war on the USA which then escalated into an invasion ballooning to a worldwide conflict.
With the post-credits scene, we can say that the hijacking would be a catalyst of some sorts in the story of the next Modern Warfare.
