In Modern Warfare 2 (CODMW2 2022), the fourteenth mission that players get to experience is called “Prison Break”. Get to know how to navigate this mission, walkthrough, and useful tips using this guide.
Modern Warfare 2 Prison Break Mission Walkthrough
As Prison Break is a pretty lengthy mission and involves a couple of mechanics spliced into one great package, allow me to break the walkthrough into different segments below.
Getting Into The Prison
- Follow Rodolfo and Ghost until you get near the prison wall. Take down the tower guards together with Ghost.
- Deal with the enemy team nearby and coordinate your shots with Ghost’s. Head to the base of the wall and wait for Rodolfo to deploy the grappling gun. Climb up to the tower.
- Drop down to the base of the tower and head outside with Ghost. Sneak into the security room and eliminate the two guards. Interact with the laptop to go to the next phase of this mission.
Camera Segment / CCTV Sequence
- Guide Ghost round the corner and shoot the enemy using a laptop. Change cameras and shoot the one on the walkway. Move Ghost forward and guide him behind the barrels.
- Climb up using the ladder and drop down to the other side. Knife kill the nearby soldier and watch as Ghost shoves him into the dumpster. Move into the generators and position yourself to shoot down the two enemies guarding it. Move Ghost to the road and behind the pickup truck to plant a bomb.
- From the truck, wait for the soldier above to turn around and use this opportunity to move Ghost to the other pillar. After you move Ghost, have him interact with the generator to scatter the stationary soldiers. Drop the guard sent in to check the generator.
- Move Ghost behind the forklift and wait for the patrolling guard. Knife him and shoot the remaining two guards starting with the one in the middle, then the one checking the container. Change camera and move Ghost behind the pillar. Knife the nearby guard and plant another bomb.
- Change camera and knife kill the guard. Have Ghost climb up and drop down to the other side and eliminate the nearby guard first before turning off the generator. Wait for the two guards to pass and move Ghost up to the top of the structure. Have Ghost drop down to knife the enemy at the base of the structure. Move Ghost to the next area.
- Wait for the two new guards to position themselves. Move Ghost behind barricade just behind the truck. Kill the nearby armored guard and plant the explosives.
Breaking Out The Others
- As Soap, follow Rodrigo and regroup with Ghost. Take down the two guards walking towards the door and stack up for entry.
- Enter the prison and go live. Fight your way through to the second floor. Eliminate all enemies and open the prison cell to give our friend Alejandro a hug. Go up and arm yourself with explosives.
- Watch out for the Riot Shields barreling down the corridor. Light them up with a Molotov Cocktail. After taking down the shields, head down the corridor and eliminate the remaining guards. Interact with the controls in the middle to let out the other members of the Mexican Special Forces.
Modern Warfare 2 Prison Break – Escaping the Prison
- Rest and regroup. Reload using the items beside the controls to the cell. From here on, it’s going to be firefight after firefight. After restocking, head down the hall and into the mess hall. Drop down and use the tables for cover.
- Deal with the enemies and expect more to come via the doors on the opposite sides of the hall. You can guard a door and lob a Molotov Cocktail into it to quickly dispatch groups in one go. Defend and exit using the door once all enemies are down.
- Go down the road and defeat the enemy forces guarding it. Once you near the corner, a pickup truck will arrive. Thankfully, you had Ghost plant a bomb on it. Detonate it and continue left.
- Another armored vehicle that is unfortunately beside a pickup with a bomb. Detonate the bomb to destroy the armored vehicle. Head inside the room to the left and rearm yourself with the weapons inside. It is recommended to get the LMG as you will use it to take down waves of enemies.
- Exit via the ladder or the door and clear the basketball court. Target the heads of armored infantry and use Molotov Cocktails to deal with the shields. Continue until you arrive at the next open area.
- Wait for the helicopter to block your way. Take cover and watch as a friendly missile destroys the helicopter. Climb back up to the wall and regroup with Price.
- Use the LMG to cover your allies. Watch out for enemies exiting the guard tower to your right and feel free to change to a sniper rifle or a grenade launcher. Detonate the remaining pickup truck to blast the armored cars following it.
- Descend from the wall to end the mission.
Mission Reward
Completing Prison Break rewards you with “Reyes” an Operator that you can use in both co-op and multiplayer.

Guide Ghost & Kill Enemies
The first half of this mission involves guiding Ghost to plant bombs. Use the cameras and liberally swap to get good angles at points where you can direct Ghost. Also, don’t be afraid to shoot down enemies as long as they are alone and hidden. Ghost can react incredibly fast and can take down two enemies in quick succession.
Burn The Riot Shields
Riot Shields are impervious to small arms fire from the front. It may be hard to flank them during certain parts of the game. Use Molotov Cocktails to dispatch them easily. As a side note, you can also pick up and use the riot shields to get an achievement by just using it to kill three enemies.
LMG Is Your Best Friend
With the hordes of enemies coming at you to prevent you from escaping, an LMG is highly recommended as it is effective in shooting down groups. If you can, look for an LMG and arm yourself with it as you advance during the escape.
