Modern Warfare 2 Recon By Fire Campaign Mission Walkthrough & Guide

In Modern Warfare 2 (CODMW2 2022), the ninth mission that players get to experience is called “Recon by Fire”. Get to know how to navigate this mission, walkthrough, and useful tips using this guide.

1. Aim down at the enemy patrol. Move forward for a bit and then look to your left and eliminate the snipers with Captain Price.
2. Crawl your way down into the canal and through the pipe. Continue advancing until you meet your first patrol. Stay put and slowly inch away from the enemy path to remain hidden. Also, do not forget to hide your gun.
3. Follow Captain Price and use your heartbeat sensor. Slowly advance and hold your fire. Continue following Price until you reach a ledge with a good view of the target location.
4. Snipe the enemy groups. Be mindful of civilians and also callouts from Captain Price. Listen to prompts and add notches to your sights to compensate for the bullet drop. Also, prepare to move around as some targets require that you shoot through two individuals.
5. After eliminating the guards, move down and prepare for another enemy patrol. Keep inside the grass and move slowly to prevent alerting the enemy. When the coast is clear, run towards the site.
6. There are two target buildings here that you need to breach and clear. You can either use your breaching charge for a forceful entry or use the vents and flush out the enemies inside with a tear gas. Flushing enemies out with tear gas is recommended as you also get supporting fire from Price. Clear the two buildings and interact with the designated item inside. Afterwards, regroup with Price near the gate.
7. Head towards the lighthouse with Price. Same as before, snipe down targets with the aid of Captain Price. The main difference here is that you need to aim for the head to reliably down an enemy. Don’t worry about missing a shot as price can help in finishing the job.
8. After clearing all enemies, head towards the lighthouse. Again, you get to encounter the third and final patrol. It’s also a bit harder this time as they are all armored. You can stay put and wait for them to pass or sprint towards the lighthouse using the hills while keeping distance from the patrol.
9. Similar to #6, clear the two buildings and interact with the target items inside them. When clearing the housing, look for the entrance to the underground cavern by moving the large washing machine. Follow Price by jumping down into the hole.
10. Eliminate the enemies guarding the sub. Walk to the edge of the pier and try to shoot down the enemies attacking Laswell. Don’t spend too much effort here though as Laswell’s capture is inevitable.

Completing Recon by Fire rewards you with the “Gaz” Calling Card that you can use in both co-op and multiplayer.

Semi-Open World Mission

Recon by fire is quite a different mission compared to the prior ones. It is a bit open world as it covers a large area and the player must navigate it to advance. Thankfully, the game still has borders and you can also refer to your objectives to keep yourself in check and on the mission.

Evade Enemy Patrols

Remember the famous mission “All Ghillied Up”? This is Modern Warfare 2’s take on it. Like the mission that inspired this one, you need to evade enemy patrols by lying down on the ground and moving inch by inch to evade them. However, unlike the mission from the original, you have to do this more than once. Be wary of enemy pathing and crawl to the sides if you have to. The enemy AI changes depending on your location so they always follow and go through where you lie down.

Or Just Run Away From Them

On the other hand, you can try running to your objective instead of staying put. In some cases, you have ample time to cross the road while the enemy patrols are going down from their vehicles. Just make sure to keep your distance before you do this.

Aim & Listen

During the sniping segments, Captain Price will calculate the allowance needed to land a shot from afar. Listen to his prompts and the number of notches you need to include to compensate for the drop. Also, there are times that you may need to move to line up a single shot to take down two enemies. Look for the best possible location and wait for Gaz to inform Price that he can take the shot before you fire.
