MSI has released a statement that they will be pushing an updated BIOS to its customers on the Intel Core 13th and 14th Gen platform to address their reported instability. At this time, the company and Intel are slating the microcode update in the middle of August.
Based on Intel’s analysis of their 13th Gen and 14th Gen processors, their instability rooted from elevated operating voltage. This stemmed from a microcode algorithm that resulted in incorrect voltage requests to the processor. CPUs were then allowed to request higher levels of voltage, which then allowed them to operate outside their safe operating conditions.
The instability affects a wide range of Intel processors in both generations including those in the K, KS, KF, and non-K 65W and higher CPUs. Intel and its partner brands will be pushing the microcode update through BIOS updates and Windows updates.
