It was early 2015 when Globe introduced the myLifestyle Plan where the postpaid plan introduced more flexible convenience to surfing through surfing plans, packs and a base standard of having unlimited text and calls to Globe/TM.
This 2017. Globe once again upgraded their postpaid plan to “ThePLAN” where three different kinds of packs can be availed according to your lifestyle and budget. You can choose from Call & Data Plan, Data Plus Plan, & Unli Call & Text Plan.
Take this example for Plan 999 with no device (Sim Only):
Plan 999 |
||
Call & Data Plan | Data Plus Plan | Unli Call & Text Plan |
· 8GB monthly data· Unli calls to Globe/TM · Unli All-Net Text · Free Facebook (1GB per month for 24mons) · |
· 16GB monthly data· No calls & text · Upsized surfing data · Free Facebook (1GB per month for 24mons) · Free HOOQ for 6 months |
· 4GB monthly data· Unli calls to Globe/TM · Unli All-Net Text · Globe DUO Landline |
Among the three options, Call & Data is the most balanced while you have the option to go for more data via Data Plus Plan or more calls & text with landline through the Unli Call & Text Plan.
When you avail a sim-only plan, you will have 500 pesos additional value on top of your plan. That’s why you can have up to 16GB monthly data with Surf Pack 999 (8GB) + top up of 8GB for Php499. That’s Php1498 monthly for 16GB of data monthly in your plan.
Of course, you can boost your plan with standard packages for calls and text, and even international call packs.
To compare with the previous myLifestylePlan, Globe has essentially made the Unlimited Calls and Text optional instead of a standard. Also, they increased the data allocation from the surf packs with one free app with 1GB allocation per month for 24 months.
Like for example with my iPhone 7 Plus for under myLifestyle Plan 1799, it has unlimited calls and text to Globe / TM, 10GB Data monthly, 6 months free HOOQ, & 1 month free gadget care.
At ThePlan, it changes dramatically. It’s now 11GB monthly, Unlimited calls to Globe/TM and All-Net Text, Free FB (1GB data for 24 months), 6 months free HOOQ, 6 months free Netflix and 1-month free gadget care.
Quite unfair since I just renewed my plan last January 9, 2017, and now I’m locked for 23 more months to a now legacy plan. We could have enjoyed the additional 1GB data, All-Net Text, 6 months free Netflix and free 1GB FB monthly if we only knew this plan was coming.
When it comes to the competition against Smart’s Giga Plans, the approach of Globe is more strategic. But if you choose to pick the Data Plus Plan, you’ll have more data as compared to any plans from Smart but with no allocation whatsoever for calls and text. So you might spend more than what you actually save.
Overall, this new “ThePLAN” postpaid plans are exactly what we need right now as it balanced out the much far cry of postpaid consumers having less data as compared to prepaid consumers. The option to choose packs more based on the lifestyle of the person is very clever, but there was no indication that you can change it…so think carefully as your lifestyle may simply change after 12 months or so.
But of course, the only ones that will benefit to this are new plan and renewal customers which still locks out many like us from these new plans. So if you are going to renew or get a postpaid plan soon, do it to avoid the same situation as ours.
