What Are Combat Patrols?

Collect More Models

Combat Patrols are what we can call “discount” boxes given that they contain a good number of models, which if bought separately, can cost you quite a lot. We know that collecting Warhammer 40,000 models is not a cheap endeavor, so most players and collectors get their armies and models through these boxes. While it’s not a mind-blowing discount, we’ll take whatever we can to shave off a bit on the price tag.

Great To Start Armies

If you’re looking to play into the game, these boxes usually come with enough models to play the smallest game mode, “Combat Patrol”. But then again, just get one after you get one of their more cost-efficient, Starter Sets.

Click on each box to know more about each combat patrol. The table below shows each box contents compared with buying each models / upgrade sprues separately. The higher the discount, the better. Also, I took some liberty in determining the price of some box contents as some models inside them are not yet available for purchase separately.

Upgrade Sprues May Be Included

Black Templars Upgrade Sprue

Upgrade Sprues are sprues that contain iconography, weapons, and assemblies specific for that Space Marine company. Some Combat Patrol boxes may included an upgrade sprue or two for the models inside it. Before buying, best check out if the box includes one. If you don’t need it, you can sell it or you can repurpose the sprues to fit your models or army.

WH40K Space Marine Combat Patrol – Price & Availability

Costs Mostly The Same

Space Marine Combat Patrol Price

Combat Patrol costs vary per region with the most affordable being in the UK, obviously. However, due to the recent price increases recent Combat Patrols are a bit more expensive compared to older ones. For those in the US, Combat Patrol prices for Space Marines range from US$168 – US$170. For those in the UK, prices for these boxes are £100.00 and all boxes have the same price.

Some Tips In Buying

  1. Get it from your LGS – your Local Game Store can offer discounts that are lower than the prices on GW’s official webstore. If you can buy from these stores, best do as not only you do you get a discount but you also support them as well.
  2. Look for second-hand models – in some cases, you may have some of the models inside these boxes. If you don’t fancy having more of them, your best bet would be to look out for those selling them. Although you do get them from a lower price, you also have to consider the logistics on getting the models, how to repaint them, and you have to watch out for fakes too.
  3. Paint old models – if you’re like me that collects a lot of Warhammer 40,000, chances are you also have loads of boxes on your shelves. In my case, I have years of backlogs that I would like to paint too (looking at you Indomitus box). If you can still be patient, best paint those old models first. Maybe, just maybe, a more discounted box (like Battleforces), may come out for you to just grab and store on your shelf again for it to gather dust.

For Those Buying In The UK

You can support my plastic crack addition (specifically my Land Raider Crusader) and get additional Element Crystals by using my affiliate code VCO8794 on Element Games UK. Let’s help one another in maintaining this hobby.

Availability of Combat Patrol Boxes

Depends On Your Region

Here in the Philippines, we usually get the new boxes a few weeks or even a month or two after it gets officially announced. Best ask your local distributor or LGS on the timeframe of the arrival of these combat patrols.
