The OPPO F9 has made its existence here in the Philippines official. Essentially an improved version of the OPPO F7, the F9 carries over most of what the people loved about its predecessor and improves on the classic OPPO formula.
Despite not moving away from the notch, OPPO has made the notch on the F9 a tiny bit more bearable by minimizing its footprint on the display. Called the “Waterdrop” screen, the F9’s 6.3-inch display has a bit taller aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a higher pixel count of 2340 x 1080 (FHD+). OPPO’s new display on the F9 also allows the smartphone to achieve an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 90.8%.
The OPPO F9 runs on the same AI-enabled Helio P60 SoC from MediaTek as the OPPO F7. The smartphone, however, now has 6GB of RAM instead of 4GB from its predecessor. Files and photos are stored in its 64GB internal storage that can be expanded up to 256GB via a dedicated microSD slot. The OPPO F9 comes installed with Android 8.1 Oreo with the brand’s latest ColorOS 5.2.
As for its cameras, the OPPO F9 has a dual camera setup at the rear with a 16MP + 2MP f/1.85 with Dual LED Flash; the secondary 2MP sensor acts as a depth sensor for the OPPO F9 to get better bokeh on photos. The front houses a 25MP f/2.0 selfie camera with Hardware HDR in order to capture better color and contrast on photos.
Standard options on previous iterations of the F-series smartphones are also present on the F9. These features include face unlock, rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and Dual SIM capabilities.
The biggest departure of the F9 from the F7, however, is the inclusion of OPPO’s VOOC charging. Usually reserved for higher-end smartphones like the Find X, the brand’s VOOC charging allows the F9 to charge its 3,500mAh battery to get up to 2 hours of talk time in just 5 minutes of charging.

Priced at 17,990, the OPPO F9 will be available for pre-order from August 24, 2018 until August 30, 2018. Those who will pre-order OPPO’s latest mid-ranger can get up to PhP 3,490 of freebies.
