OPPO introduces 5x lossless Zoom + IOS technology in a thin module

-

Remember the extending lens of point and shoot cameras to achieve 3x zoom? Well, that’s what phones like the Samsung Galaxy K-Zoom did and it didn’t sell well due to their quite chunky size. Then came 2015’s innovative ASUS ZenFone Zoom which uses the 1st periscope smartphone camera design to achieve 3x Optical Zoom, unfortunately, details were lacking as the more zoom results to more aperture / less light and the overall results aren’t that impressive.

With dual camera technology now a trend, OPPO made a breakthrough announcement by being the 1st to combine a regular smartphone lens and a periscope zoom lens to achieve Up to 5x zoom lossless detail photos.

Both cameras has OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) for more stable shots and only 5.7mm thick in overall body. So smartphones using this module can achieve less than 10mm thickness.

OPPO says that with the two lens working together, they can bring more details into photos even when zoomed in. Additionally, OPPO achieves this in a much thinner body profile at less than 10mm where the nearest comparison would be the ASUS ZenFone Zoom at 11.95mm.

Right now, OPPO didn’t announce specifically a smartphone that would carry this technology as it is still in final developments, but it seems that it will be soon. With this technology on-hand, OPPO will be able to make a mark in the smartphone photography innovation aside from already dominating the #Selfie front camera technology.

Just to compare, this is the same periscope technology used by the ASUS ZenFone Zoom as indicated on their website.

What do you think? Should OPPO just launch this with a phone instead of an announcement? Or maybe they want you to hold off any purchase for other MWC announced phones?
