Based on the Twitter video, the prototype is able to take photos without any mechanical devices popping up. The person demonstrating the technology placed their finger on top of the camera to show that it is really working.
OPPO Vice President Brian Shen has explained that their under-the-display front-facing camera technology are still in its early days. He also mentions that “At this stage, it’s difficult for under-display cameras to match the same results as normal cameras, there’s bound to be some loss in optical quality.”
At this time, it can be safely assumed that OPPO is still perfecting this technology. But with their fast-paced release cycle, we will probably see a smartphone rocking an under- the-display camera within the year or early next year.
