Otterbox Symmetry and Pursuit for iPhone XS Max Review

-

Taking care of your a new phone is no doubt important, that’s why Otterbox a long-time case accessory provider for smartphones such as the new iPhone Xs series with the Symmetry, Pursuit, etc.

We recently got the Otterbox Symmetry and Pursuit to test out with our iPhone XS Max, so for a case that is worth Php3,050 and 4,000+ for the Pursuit. Here’s our take for both cases.

Symmetry

The Symmetry is simply a rounded edged case with a tough polycarbonate case with a layer of rubber lip on the side and front to protect the cover. Overall weight is lighter than expected for its stiff body.

Simple branding of Otterbox is at the back on its more minimalist font. We like that the Symmetry series is available in a series of colors for personality. At the bottom is a more lip type cover for the lightning port and speakers, while the rubber lip might be more flexible it doesn’t overall bend with the whole body.

Screen protectors won’t be a problem with the Symmetry as it just snugs finely. We like that the raised lip provides extra protection against bumps and scratches especially in an event the phone may fall face flat.

Pursuit

The pursuit is the ultimate protection for the iPhone from the Otterbox series, unfortunately, this one still carries the old otterbox labeling which is a symbol of its original image of strength. We assume this series is definitely the flagship series of the company build for the though in mind.

The Pursuit has a drop+ certification as it can protect the phone in the expected drops and even having a watertight lip to cover the screen to protect against dust, waters, waters and more.

The pursuit has two major parts, a top lip and a back cover that spans across the sides. You need to remove the top lip to put the phone and put back the lip to create a tight seal for the screen in front.

While the speaker section is closed off, the pursuit has special holes that redirect the speakers directing upwards.

A rubber tight seal for the lightning port and lanyard slot is available at the bottom for added protection.

The camera area is also protected through the raised body of the pursuit, it’s nice as you have less chance to touch the camera lens to avoid smudges.

Unfortunately, tempered glass isn’t welcomed in the pursuit series as the rubber lips are extending more than usual. So, take in mind that you need to remove any screen tempered glasses when using this series.

Side protection is also though, all sides are well protected from any bumps and scratches. Though we are too scared to drop our own unit, the worst was a 4ft table drop and it didn’t do any damage in the phone.

The overall feel is similar to the Symmetry with a though plastic and rubber front lip. Diagonal edges helped the overall grip to be more manageable despite the fat body added. Weight wise, we feel around 15g of weight is added. Just in case, there is a lanyard also provided for added peace of mind.

Conclusion

The Symmetry and Pursuit series both provide the utmost protection for the urban traveler or even the extreme occupation experts. We think the new Otterbox series have a match for every profile today, and we suggest getting the Symmetry as its both safe, secure and fashionable among all.

Symmetry – Php3,050

  • What we like
    • Lightweight and durable
    • Simple branding and multiple colors
  • What we don’t like
    • The texture is subjective to everyone’s taste

Pursuit – Ph4,000+

  • What we like
    • Ultimate protection, additional dust and water resistance without the annoying plastic screen film.
    • Bulky but convincingly strong and durable
    • Speaker improvement is nice but slightly makes the sound higher in pitch.
  • What we don’t like
    • Not screen protector friendly
    • Removal and installation is a bit of a chore
