The herbalist is a character that is apparently scripted to die in the game. You can use various means to distract the guard and also the rats around him but the herbalist’s fate is inevitable. The guy just stands still and does not even thank you for the trouble even if you bothered to save him. The game also does not give you any achievement or material reward for saving him.
Just let the herbalist die and progress with the story. For now.
As Plague Tale: Requiem is just a recently released game, we may find the gratitude that we want from the herbalist in future updates. For now, just allow him to die as there is neither reward nor achievement from helping the guy live.
During the events of Chapter 3 – A Burden of Blood, players are tasked to go to the herbalist to fetch some medicine for the ailing Hugo. Along the way, the rats have started to appear and the herbalist has been apprehended as his talents are needed. However, as the guards have killed his wife, the herbalist has refused to cooperate and has been executed for it.
The herbalist first appears in Chapter 2 – Newcomers. The herbalist knows the location of Vaudin, the man from the Order needed to help cure Hugo. He is also the husband of the florist that Amicia and Hugo talked to during the first parts of Chapter 2.
A Plague Tale: Requiem is available on PC via Steam and Xbox Game Pass. On consoles, you can play it on the Sony PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
