PLDT now offers Google Wifi – Should you get it?

PLDT Fibr, in particular, is now offering more ways to eliminate dead spots in your fiber connection with mesh-based systems and one of their latest offerings is the Google WiFi Plan 3799. This new plan offers 50Mbps with 3pcs of Google WiFi points for a good coverage of around 120sqms for removal of dead spots and this can technically handle around more than 60 clients simultaneously.

But is it worth it?

From the base plan of the 50Mbps of 2899, the Google Wifi plan is at 3799 which is Php900 more for a total of 36 months. That translates to additional 32,400 into your bill should you consider the Google Wifi package.

Current PLDT customers can also get the PLDT Google Wifi in the following prices for 36 months.

  • 1pc – Php299 or Php10,764
  • 2pcs – Php589 or Php21,204
  • 3pcs – Php799 or Php28,764

Considering your current PLDT router plus the three additional Google Wifi, the package is technically expensive as compared to the US. The three pack is just over Php14,000 when converted, though we understand that PLDT offers it at 36 months with a plan, the difference is just too big.

Though Google Wifi is convenient with its own app to manage your own network and even integrate Google Home among other home devices like Philips Hue or Nanoleaf systems…that is if you have. Perhaps the advantage of this will be two, one is that its conveniently payable up to 36 months along with the plan of the internet. And two, that is its only available via PLDT but do take note that your current plan will reset for 36 months when you avail this plan.

If it’s too much for you, we suggest getting mesh based routers for expansion. If you have the cash to shell out Php13,300 then we suggest just getting this router and eventually get one more in the future to expand your network with better processing power, larger signal coverage and even saving few thousand pesos.

Overall, the PLDT Google Wifi is a great additional option for homeowners especially no idea about networking. But considering the price, it’s just too high to consider for network specialist and can easily get alternatives for lower the total cost of ownership price.
