Qualcomm is introducing another fast charging tech under their belt with the Quick Charge 3+. Qualcomm’s new charging standard aims to deliver faster charging speeds to mid-range devices.
Quick Charge 3+ will be first introduced on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 and 765G platforms with other chips in different tiers following suit. Quick Charge 3+ brings quite a few improvements over the vanilla Quick Charge 3 introduced five years ago:
- 0% – 50% in 15 minutes, 35% faster charging, and 9°C cooler compared to previous generations.
- Quick Charge 3+ will support USB Type-A to Type-C cables and accessories that support scalable voltage with 20mV steps from Quick Charge 4, which are more affordable for OEMs and consumers.
- It will be compatible with previous generation Quick Charge devices and newer devices can work with Quick Charge 3+ accessories.
- Integrated cable power capability/identification, various safety mechanisms.
The Qualcomm Quick Charge 3+ will also support new PMICs such as SMB1395/SMB1396, which allows as scalable architecture for higher charge power, ultra-fast charging at lower cost, variable voltage charging accessories, as well as remove the need for external components for lower costs.
