The Samsung Galaxy J2 Prime is one of the recent entry level smartphones of Samsung. From last year’s Samsung Galaxy J2, it seems Samsung changed direction and opted to refined their smartphones and remove the gimmicky DTV into their lineup.
Samsung (SM-G532G) Galaxy J2 Prime:
So welcome the Samsung Galaxy J2 Prime, it features a 5″ screen smartphone with standard earphones, charger and charging cable. No accessories included such as screen protector or casing unfortunately.
At the back, it features a dual-sim tray with dedicated MicroSD slot for apps and photos. Once you install your back cover, you’ll notice the rigid back for better grip similar to other Samsung phones.
Once finishing setup, you’ll be welcomed with the usual Samsung user interface. To be honest, in phones such as this level, the more personalization is better. It gives more value for money for consumers who value every centavo of their phone.
The 5″ TFT screen is bright ad vivid, though viewing angles aren’t that good but the phone is more or less meant for self-consumption anyways. Too bad that Samsung cut traditions by offering AMOLED displays even to entry-level phones.
Internet connectivity is now up to 4G LTE which can reach around 12mbps easily, unfortunately, there isn’t any 700MHz support which is a good feature to have.
At the back is an 8MP shooter with LED flash, while at the front is 5MP with also a LED Flash.
Overall photos are decent using the 8MP rear camera, but we see a white-washed trend in the front camera. Details are blurry due to the slow shutter speed and overall just average in quality.
But we are glad Samsung even opted to include a Pro mode and other modes such as panorama, night, HDR and more, usually these modes are seen in more expensive lineup of Samsung.
Performance is decent with around 35,000 points in AnTuTu Benchmark, multi-tasking is decent with this smartphone using the 1.5GB RAM. What worries us is the internal storage of 8GB already occupies around 6GB+ worth of data, leaving you around 1.1GB of space to work around with your apps.
So buying this phone will definitely require you to purchase a MicroSD card up to 64GB if possible.
With a decent MediaTek processor, the 2,600mAh battery surprisingly leads ahead to around 16 hours of usage with data. That is average with facebook, app usage and even calls and text, quite good for a smartphone its size.
Conclusion
The Galaxy J2 Prime is priced at Php5,990 which is already steep for a smartphone with 8GB internal storage today. It seems we suggest you get this phone only if you desire something from Samsung or even a durable secondary phone. Otherwise, if you aren’t brand picky, then ASUS and other brands might have an alternative for you.
