The realme 6 Pro is encased in the traditional yellow box from the brand. Its accessories is pretty customary, which only comes with the essentials: a 30W VOOC charger, a USB Type-C cable, documentation, and a silicone case.
The realme 6 Pro has a 6.6-inch 2400 x 1080 display at the front with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 as well as a factory applied screen protector. Brightness is fairly average though we can still use it outside without the reflection of the sun blinding us. Color rendition is decent albeit the blacks aren’t deep since the device doesn’t come with an AMOLED panel.
The real star of the display is its 90Hz refresh rate. With most smartphones at the price point only having a 60Hz screen, the realme 6 Pro’s 90Hz display is a real step up from the rest. This allows for more fluid animations when using the smartphone as well as smoother gameplay while playing.
The footprint of the front-facing camera has been minimized on the 6 Pro. Instead of having a notch like previous smartphones from the brand, the device now comes with a pill-style hole at the top left that accommodates its 16MP f/2.1 main + 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide selfie cameras.
Moving to its design, the realme 6 Pro has quite an eye-catching aesthetic. The middle of its back is embossed with a lightning bolt that encompasses the rear’s vertical space. Depending on how you look at it, its lightning can be multiple bolts or a single large bolt. In addition, the back of the device is protected by a layer of glass, which adds to the premium feel of the smartphone.
Just at the top left of the back is the 6 Pro’s four cameras as well as its LED flash. Its quad camera setup is composed of a 64MP f/1.8 main camera, a 12MP f/2.5 telephoto, an 8MP f/2.3 ultrawide, and a 2MP f/2.4 macro lens.
In order to preserve the near uniform design of its back, realme has decided to integrate the fingerprint scanner on the power button at the left-hand side. This means that there’s no in-display fingerprint scanning in the realme 6 Pro, however, you still have the option to use Face Unlock. The right-hand side of the device houses its volume buttons as well as its triple-cut SIM tray.
At the bottom are its bottom-firing speakers, a 3.5mm audio jack, a micrphone and a USB Type-C port. The brand has also upped the charging speeds to its 30W VOOC Charging standard for its 4,300mAh battery.
In terms of design, the realme 6 Pro has a rather bold approach to it. Available in the Philippines in Lightning Blue and Lightning Red, you can’t go wrong with either as both have a distinct back aesthetic. As for its build, the device seems pretty solid although the chassis itself is made out of plastic. The Gorilla Glass 5 and its glass rear does give a luxurious feel, which can’t be said in some smartphones in its price range.
The realme 6 Pro comes with the brand’s realme UI based on Google’s Android 10 ecosystem. Basically, the realme UI is a spinoff the previous ColorOS found on previous smartphones albeit closer to a stock Android experience.
All the standard options are present such as multi-windows support, a clear notification bar at the top, and gesture controls. You can switch from a strictly home screen setup to a traditional app drawer. On top of the usual options is the brand’s access and productivity options like Smart Assistant and Smart Sidebar.
Icons are extremely customizable allowing you to stick with the default set or choose other presets like Material and Pebble. If that’s not enough, you can also create your own icon-style complete with options such as foreground size, icon size, and custom icon shapes.
As mentioned, the realme 6 Pro has a set of four cameras led by a 64MP f/1.8 main camera, and is backed by a 12MP f/2.5 telephoto, an 8MP f/2.3 ultrawide, and a 2MP f/2.4 macro. The brand has mixed up the traditional set of cameras on a midrange smartphone by including a telephoto lens. A feature which was previously found on more expensive smartphones and flagships.
The camera app is pretty standard for realme smartphones. You have access to Photo, Night Mode, Portrait, 64MP Mode, Ultra Macro, Panorama, Expert, Time-lapse, Slow Motion, and Expert Mode. The device also has access to Chroma Boost and AI scene recognition. In terms of video, the rear cameras can capture 4K videos at 30fps, 1080p at 30/60/120fps with stabilization while the front cameras can take 1080p video at 30fps.
Taking snaps with the realme 6 Pro’s main 64MP f/1.8 main camera produces great photos with lots of details and decent saturation. Colors are well rendered without becoming too vivid. Noise is kept to a minimum and is disappears in well-lit conditions.
Its 8MP f/2.3 ultrawide, while lacking in sheer pixel count, is still able to capture detailed and saturated photos. Meanwhile, the 12MP f/2.5 telephoto is detailed enough for a zoom lens although the colors are a bit lackluster for our liking.
Using the 2MP f/2.4 macro lens is a bit of a disappointment like most of the macro lenses found on the realme’s catalogue. You lose a lot of clarity and detail making photos look like renders instead of photos. We can’t help but feel that realme only included the camera to round up the camera count to four instead of three.
Inside the realme 6 Pro is a Snapdragon 720G chipset with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable internal storage. Its chipset is are six cores of Kryo 465 Silver cores running at 1.8GHz and two Kryo 465 Gold cores clocked at 2.3GHz. As for graphical prowess, the chip comes with an Adreno 618 GPU.
Playing games and doing our usual tasks with the realme 6 Pro is a breeze with its chipset. There’s minimal lag and we were able to play a decent framerate in PUBG Mobile. Higher framerates can also be achieved to take advantage of the 90Hz display but you’ll need to turn down a few settings from High to free up some GPU horsepower.
Running benchmarks on the realme 6 Pro also proved to be easy as the device is able to pump out numbers similar to that of an older flagship. The 6 Pro is able to score near 290,000 in AnTuTu, 2,513 in 3DMark Sling Shot Extreme, and 10,629 in PCMark Work 2.0. Sequential read and write speeds are relatively fast with the former reaching 516.2MB/s and the latter at 205.8MB/s.
Providing power to the realme 6 Pro is a 4,300mAh battery. Although not as large as some of its peers, the battery is still able to carry us through the day with medium use. After playing a few rounds of games and watching YouTube at the end of the day, the device still has some juice left to carry over to the next day. As far as benchmarks go, PCMark Work 2.0 puts the device just shy of 12 hours and 30 minutes with medium brightness and volume. Charging is fairly hassle-free thanks to its 30W VOOC charging cutting the usual 2 hour charging time from 0% to 100% in half.
Priced at PhP 16,990, the realme 6 Pro might be comparatively expensive to other outings of the brand but it has the same motto as its contemporaries: offer more for less. The realme 6 Pro offers a lot of things that some smartphones offer individually but not in a package: a 6.6-inch 90Hz screen, a large battery, quick charging, and a fine set of cameras.
The realme 6 Pro pretty much has every facet of a smartphone covered. There are a few nitpicks like the display not being OLED and the humdrum performance of the macro lens. Other than those, the value that the 6 Pro offers is near unparalleled. It’s nigh impossible not to recommend the realme 6 Pro based on the performance we have seen, which is why we are giving our seal of approval.
