realme has retained as the top smartphone brand in the Philippines this Q2 2022 according to Canalys. Despite their strong performance, the brand’s year-on-year growth is in the red with an estimated -21% growth says the report.
The brand is now moving on to a more premium market with their mainline numbered series and GT Neo lineup. Their former sub-brand narzo will be taking over the entry-level market with additional smartphone options like the recent narzo 50 series.
Transsion Holdings, owner of smartphone brands Itel, Tecno, and Infinix, is quickly on the rise with a year-on-year growth of 202 percent. This can be attributed to their range of budget-friendly options that are attractive to the masses.
Ranking third, fourth, and fifth are OPPO, Xiaomi, and Samsung, respectively. OPPO and Samsung have had double digit year-on-year growth on Q2 2022 while Xiaomi only has an estimated 1% growth within the same period.
Global smartphone shipments, however, is down 9% in Q2 2022 to only 287 million units shipped in Q2 2022. This is the lowest quarterly figure since Q2 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic hit most markets.
