Huawei is known more for their range of smartphones, tablets, smart wearables, and IoT devices. They are officially dipping their toes in the gaming display market with their first entry, the Huawei MateView GT. The display is positioned at a moderate price point but it does not skimp on features.
The Huawei MateView GT comes with a curved 34-inch 21:9 3440 x 1440 ultrawide screen – a considerable size increase compared to the standard 16:9 1920 x 1080 or 2560 x 1440 gaming monitors in the market.
Speed isn’t a problem either. Refresh rate is set at a maximum of 165Hz, which is slightly higher than 144Hz or 120Hz commonly found on other displays. Huawei rates the MateView GT with a 4ms response time but our testing show that it can reach around 2.1ms with its maximum Overdrive setting.
The MateView GT has a wide choice of ports conveniently placed behind a magnetic cover. The usual suspects are here including a power port, two HDMI 2.0 ports, and a DisplayPort 1.4 port. Huawei, however, is including a USB Type-C option for laptops, video cards, and even smartphones and tablets that support external displays
Huawei says that the MateView GT’s screen supports HDR400, 100% sRGB, and 90% DCI-P3. Testing show that its values are fairly close to the advertise numbers with the screen reaching 99.30% sRGB, 85.60% DCI-P3, and a maximum luminance of around 438.05 cd/m2.
Colors are fairly good with neutral tones on its default setting. We only needed to adjust its Red values through the OSD to 95 to make colors balanced. The 34-inch VA panel has good viewing angles while still offering deep blacks.
The display has a built-in soundbar on its stand so you don’t need to buy external speakers to enjoy games or movies. It packs quite a punch and can get pretty loud at its maximum settings thanks to two 5W speakers. Volume is easily controlled through the display’s OSD.
The brand is also putting a few extras on the monitor like RGB lighting. Its lighting including quite a lot of effects that will suite your preference including static, breathing, colorful, single and ripple waves, colorful flow, colorful ripples, and flowing waves.
While Huawei is still a neophyte when it comes to gaming displays, they have shown that they can provide a decent gaming experience with the Huawei MateView GT. It’s curved 34-inch 3440 x 1440 165Hz VA panel is a step up and the inclusion of RGB lighting and speakers definitely completes the package.
