Some cloud storage services such as Backblaze, Carbonite, and OpenDrive offer unlimited cloud storage on their servers. In a report from Motherboard, one redditor under the name beaston02 decided to see what unlimited really means by storing almost 2 million Gigabytes of porn (1.8 petabytes) on Amazon’s recently deceased unlimited cloud storage plan on Amazon Web Services.
1.8 petabytes of porn is a lot. But beaston02 wrote his own scripts to record shows from adult cam sites, which includes CamSoda, Chaturbate, and MyFreeCams. The whole project took five to six months to archive 1 petabyte of porn. The redditor just stopped under 1.8 petabytes of total archived videos. To put 1.8 petabytes of stored porn in to perspective, it would take around 300 years to finish marathon-watching the whole library of adult entertainment.
While beaston02 has stopped archiving adult entertainment from the web, another redditor under the username -Archivist took up beaston02’s mantle with the Petabyte Porn Project. They are currently uploading up to 12 terabytes of data daily and are already close to two petabytes on Amazon Cloud and mirrored on Google Drive.
