It’s not a secret that OLED displays are superior than their LCD counterparts. They are far brighter, consume less energy, and are able to produce images of greater quality. However, these qualities do come at a price, making OLED screens and displays fit for the more premium stuff in most manufacturer’s product portfolio. In the case of the ROG Strix XG27AQDMG, the display does not come with an ordinary OLED but with WOLED, with the “W” standing for White. The WOLED display makes the ROG Strix XG27AQDMG capable of producing brighter images. In brightly lit rooms, the image quality is more or less unaffected by glare, given that it’s also glossy.
As a true gaming monitor, the ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG has a refresh rate of 240Hz. Not the fastest but still is impressive given its arsenal of certifications and image quality. Often times, quality and high refresh rate don’t mix well and it’s rare to have a good combination of both without having to compromise on one quality.
The best thing about this monitor is that it’s certified to work for both Nvidia G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync. It does not care if you have either red or green cards powering your PC, it only cares that you output good frames with outstanding display. So if you have an AMD card, don’t worry as the ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG can handle it.
There’s no denying it. The ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG has one of the most impressive displays on a gaming monitor as of yet. It’s bright, the colors are vibrant, and there’s a minimal need to tweak things if you’re in it for playing games. The experience using this gaming monitor is akin to using ROG Nebula Displays on ROG laptops. The bright screen does stand out if you’re used to playing on the usual gaming monitors. The kicker in all of this is that the display, while having good quality color and quality, has a 240Hz refresh rate. Most monitors have a hard time getting to this refresh rate at a native level and the ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG is rated to perform out of the box.
Despite its premium feel, the ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG can be setup easily without any fuss. There is only one screw involved in the process and the whole thing is a plug-and-play setup. After screwing the stand to the base, with the push of a button, a locking mechanism connects the stand to the display itself. That’s it. It only takes a minute or so to set this thing up and running.
I have always hated monitors with stands that have long feet as they take up a fair amount of space. Although it looks spacious and cool, I personally think that rectangular stands are far superior. Some may think them ugly but they do not take that much space compared to the spider legs of some gaming monitors. Thankfully, the ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG uses rectangular stands and does away with those spiky legs that most of its siblings have.
For tweaking, you can do so directly by pressing the button behind the ROG logo on the ROG Strix XG27AQDMG. The on-screen display shows various menus that you can tinker with to adjust the image quality or to give you some boon during gaming sessions. The OSD is a mainstay feature in ROG monitors since time immemorial and it makes things simpler given that you do not need to interface with any software to change settings or turn on/off certain features.
Having reviewed a large number of ROG laptops with ROG Nebula Displays, finally having a desktop equivalent that’s close to that is a realized dream. The ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG has impressive brightness, crisp and clear colors, and more importantly, delivers fine images when gaming. It’s definitely impressive given that it also has a high refresh rate and is both G-SYNC and FreeSync compatible. If you’re looking for your next gaming monitor, include this in your list of choices.
As of the writing of this review, the ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG has officially announced SRP here in the Philippines. However, some international sites price this gaming monitor at US$699. With that said, it’s safe to say that the price will be roughly around PhP 40,000.
According to ASUS representatives, the ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG is set to hit the shelves locally this coming July 2024. If you wish to reserve one, best talk to your local friendly computer hardware store.
