The 2024 refresh of the Galaxy A series is here. Leading the lineup is the Samsung Galaxy A55 5G. Much like last year’s entries, the Galaxy A55 5G looks like a budget S series device with a familiar design but with upgraded internals, software, and cameras.

The Samsung Galaxy A55 5G now comes with the new Exynos 1480 chipset paired with 8GB RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. At the front is a 6.6-inch 2340 x 1080 AMOLED display with a punch hole for its 32MP f/2.2 front-facing camera.
Both the Galaxy A55 5G and the new A35 5G share the same design at the back, but the former has a steel frame instead of plastic. There are a trio of cameras at the back: a 50MP f/1.8 main camera with OIS, a 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide, and a 5MP f/2.4 macro camera.
Samsung says that they improved the A55 5G’s low-light performance with an “advanced AI Image Signal Processing.” They promise clearer and more vibrant photos even in less-than-ideal lighting conditions. Meanwhile Night Portrait mode and 12-bit HDR video ensure that capturing photos and videos are improved in low-light conditions.
It will run on Samsung’s One UI 6.1 based on Android 14. Security remains a top feature on the OS and the A series will now be offering Auto Blocker that blocks installing apps from unauthorized sources plus providing app security checks, and security and privacy dashboard that enables you to see and control your data. They are also including some AI-powered tools like Object Remover first introduced in the Galaxy S series.
The company promises that the Galaxy A55 5G and Galaxy A35 5G will be supported for up to 4 generations and One UI upgrades, and 5 years of security updates to keep them equipped with the latest Galaxy and Android features.
Price and Availability
The Samsung Galaxy A55 5G is priced at PhP 24,990 in the Philippines. It will hit the Philippine market on March 18, 2024. Retail stores will be offering 8GB/256GB variants while telcos like Globe Telecom and Smart Communications will carry am 8GB/128GB model.
