Samsung Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra launches, impressive upgrades from last year

Its time once again for Samsung to refresh their long-running S series. This year, we are getting three variants: the Samsung Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra all of which come with an impressive spec sheet, high refresh rate displays, and 5G capabilities. As a kicker, however, all three devices will not come bundled with chargers or earphones.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

As the lead of the S21 series, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra comes with a cacophony of high-end components like an Exynos 2100 chipset, up to 16GB of RAM, and up to 512GB of non-expandable internal storage. Of course, you will also be getting the latest connectivity advancements like 5G and WiFi 6E.

The S21 Ultra has a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x WQHD+ resolution with the ability to switch from varying refresh rates from 10Hz to 120Hz. This will allow users to choose from a buttery-smooth experience or to a slower, battery-preserving mode. The display is also able to produce a peak brightness of up to 1,500nits

The highlight of the device are the dizzying specifications of its cameras. Its main 108MP f/1.8 main camera has a 12MP sensor that can hold up to 9 pixels to capture a ton of light. This allow the S21 Ultra to preserve lots of details regardless of the shooting conditions. The main lens can also capture 8K videos so you can preserve moments with the utmost clarity. 100x

100x zoom is done easily by the help of its two telephoto cameras: a 10MP f/4.9 periscope and a 10MP f/2.4 telephoto. The former is able to reach up to 10x optical zoom while the latter can achieve 3x optical zoom. Meanwhile, Its fourth camera is a 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide lens with Super Steady Video.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra will now officially support the brand’s own S Pen. This enables a smartphone to have a more precise input method for drawing, note taking, editing photos, and signing documents.

As for power, the device gets its juice from a 5,000mAh battery with support for 25W Fast Charging, USB Power Delivery 3.0, and wireless and reverse wireless charging. It is also rated IP68 for dust and water resistance is compatible with Samsung DeX through wireless means or via its USB Type-C port.

Samsung Galaxy S21 and S21+

The S21 flagship will be accompanied by the similarly impressive Samsung Galaxy S21 and S21+. Both devices share the same Exynos 2100 chip as its bigger brother but only comes with8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Fortunately, both smartphones still come with 5G capabilities and WiFi 6E.

The Samsung Galaxy S21+ has a 6.7-inch Dynamic OLED 2x at FullHD+ while the Galaxy S21 has the same panel technology and resolution in a smaller 6.2-inch form factor. Their screens are adjustable from a battery saving 48Hz to a smoother 120Hz refresh rate.

The Galaxy S21 and S21+ come with the same camera arrangement: a 12MP f/1.8 main camera, a 64MP f/2.0 telephoto lens with up to 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide capable of taking Super Steady Video. At the front, meanwhile, is a 10MP f/2.2 Dual-Pixel PDAF selfie shooter.

Both smartphones will support wired fast charging, USB Power Delivery 3.0, Qi Charging, and reverse wireless charging. The Galaxy S21+ will be receiving a larger 4,800mAh battery while its little brother will have a slightly smaller 4,000mAh reserve.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 Series will not come with chargers

While Samsung took jabs last year when Apple announced that they won’t ship their iPhone 12 series smartphones with a charger, it seems the they are following the steps of the California tech giant by removing chargers and earphones in the usual smartphone bundle. All three smartphones will only come with a USB Type-C cable for charging and data transfers.

Pricing and Availability

The Samsung Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra are now up for pre-order in the Philippines until January 28, 2020. Those who will pre-order the Galaxy S21+ and S21 Ultra can get a free Galaxy Buds Pro and Buds Live, respectively, as well as a free Galaxy Tab A 8.0, Galaxy SmartTag, and a 25W Wall Charger.
