The Samsung Galaxy S24 series have made their international debut. Leading the pack is the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. There are a couple of improvements this generation including a new titanium frame, a 50MP telephoto camera, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, and AI capabilities.
Hardware takes a bit of a backseat this generation as Samsung focuses on the Galaxy S24 series’ AI capabilities. Currently, Galaxy AI’s capabilities centers around breaking the language barrier thanks to Live Translate – a two-way, real-time voice and text translation of phone calls.
Interpreter translates live conversations on a split-screen view so participants standing opposite of each other can read a text transcription of what the other person has said – all of which working locally within the smartphone.
Chat Assist helps with conversational tones to get the intended message across. It is built into the Samsung keyboard and can translate messages in real-time in 13 languages. Android Auto takes advantage of this by automatically summarizing incoming messages and suggesting relevant replies so you can stay focused on the road.
The S24 series will also include Note Assist in Samsung notes for AI-generated summaries and template creation while Transcript Assist uses AI and speech-to-text to transcribe, summarize, and even translate audio recordings.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is the only device in the S24 range to come with a titanium frame and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy chipset complemented by 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of non-expandable storage.
Its cameras are largely the same as the previous generation with the main camera being a 200MP f/1.7 shooter but Samsung has added a 50MP f/3.4 telephoto that can reach up to 5x optical zoom.
AI is also being used on its photos thanks to ProVisual Engine that takes advantage of the Ultra’s quad camera setup with up to 100x enhanced digital zoom and the ability to adjust photos with Galaxy AI Editing Tools.
Its display and battery remain largely the same on with the Ultra packing a 6.8-inch 3088 x 1440 Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen that runs up to 120Hz and a 5,000mAh battery that supports 45W Fast Charging, Fast Wireless Charging 2.0, and Wireless PowerShare. Its screen is further enhanced by Corning Gorilla Glass Armor that promises up to 75% reduced reflection in a range of lighting conditions.
Samsung is ensuring up to seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security to increase the longevity of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series.
