In CES 2018, Vivo has told the world that the first smartphone with an in-display fingerprint scanner is now ready for production. Samsung, however, may be developing a different in-display technology. According to a patent, the Korean giant is trying make smartphones with a front-facing camera behind the display.

Aside from the camera, the patent Samsung has places everything beneath the display including the ambient light and proximity sensors as well as the earpiece. If this works out, then we’ll have a new meaning in the marketing term “All-screen display.”

This isn’t possible yet at the moment. Other manufacturers, however, has dabbled with the idea with an earlier patent, which suggests the use of a transparent OLED display with a high refresh rate that allows the built-in camera to capture the image in between the refresh rate of the display.
