Seagate Enterprise NAS 6TB Review

As files become larger, so does our HDDs. While each task can be outfitted by a single HDD, some companies and brands create different lines to cater for them. Seagate’s Enterprise HDDs come off as their solution to Network-Attached Storages, boasting high capacities coupled with safety measures for file security.

It’s a normal 3.5” HDD. What more is there to say?

For our benchmarks, we used four popular programs that are widely known for checking write/read speeds.

Wait, wait! What do these numbers mean?

Even if the HDD is for NAS, it is still an HDD that can be tested and benched. The same tests that we subjected our storage devices, be they SSDs or HDDs, will be used for the Seagate Enterprise NAS 6TB. These numbers would then act as references for our readers and for future comparisons.

Do note that while read/speed measurements are mostly the deal here, there are features that won’t come off such as file recovery features and anti-vibration gimmicks.

Crystal DiskMark

CrystalDiskMark is a disk benchmark software.It measure sequential reads/writes speed,measure random 512KB, 4KB, 4KB (Queue Depth=32) reads/writes speed,select test data (Random, 0Fill, 1Fill),provide theme support and Multi-Language support.

The drive itself has some punch in it. Contrary to the belief that NAS HDDs tend to ignore speeds, this one takes the cake back home. The Seagate Enterprise NAS boasts high speeds that outrun the WD Red and is also just a few numbers away from the WD Black.

 ATTO Disk Benchmark

The ATTO Disk Benchmark performance measurement tool is compatible with Microsoft Windows. Measure your storage systems performance with various transfer sizes and test lengths for reads and writes.

Anvil Storage Utilities

Anvil’s Storage Utilities has been designed to be the most comprehensive benchmark tool for Solid State Drives on the market. We can also use the numbers as references for benchmarking HDDs.

The numbers don’t look that spectacular, but do remember that this is an HDD. The numbers play in the thousands if the device is an SSD.

Verdict

The Seagate Enterprise NAS 6TB definitely has the size and the bulk to contain large files. On the otherhand, despite having the sole purpose of containing files, it also is capable of being faster than the average HDD. Compared with WD’s Red, our data shows faster speeds in both read/write. Even WD’s performance HDD, the Black, is just a few ticks away!

As a kicker, the whole package comes with a 5-year warranty. We can’t find any seller here in the Philippines other than PCWorx and they only sell the the lower capacity variants. The 4TB one retails at PhP 8,800.00.

With our data, Seagate’s added reliability measures, and the 5-year warranty, we can definitely recommend this as a primary solution for users looking a NAS HDD.

We’ll be using this HDD to review the Thecus W4000 and we’re quite excited to unlock what the device has to offer. Here’s our unboxing of the W4000.
