With our in-depth check of both iPhone 8 Plans of Globe and Smart, it’s now time to compare both telcos that can only provide the iPhone 8 in the Philippines. Now, the preference between who has the better data signal won’t be really tackled here, but more of the plan inclusions and overall value.
Who has the better Cash Out?
Smart starts to offer their iPhone plans at 999 above, you can see that Smart overalls offer a smaller cash out with a price difference of around Php2,400 – Php4,800 not to mention that for Plans 999 and 1499 it offers an extra 1GB of data.
Who has the better package?
When it comes to the plan package, this will where you might have some time to think. Smart is overall straightforward with unlimited all-net text and a limited number of all net calls and one app for data allocation. But they have bigger data allocations from the entry-level plans.
Whereas Globe offers a more inter-network offer of unlimited calls within its network and unli-all net texts. While its data offers are compelling with a content subscription from Spotify, Netflix, and Disney for up to 6 months which is around Php4,000 in value. The question is if you actually use them or you already have those?
Both offers 1-month free gadget accidental care but with a fee afterward. Technically its an insurance for your phone for anything that may happen. Prices range from 299-399 for the insurance with around Php3,000 – Php4,500 participation fee.
All I care is what I pay monthly!
Alright, we get you, you want to know who is the most affordable in monthly payments. That would be smart with around Php100-300 pesos cheaper monthly fee as compared to Globe.
The biggest gap will be at plan 1499 where you pay Php2,499 / Php2,699 for the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus respectively via Smart. While Globe Plan will leave you to Php2,699 / Php3,024 for the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus respectively.
Do take note that for some strange reason, Globe purposely made the Plan 1499 more expensive as compared to 1799. This means that getting Plan 1799 is actually cheaper by Php100-Php150 pesos monthly and 3GB more data.
Smart is Cheaper but Globe has more compelling content
When you compare to the total cost of ownership, Smart is cheaper from Php7,800 – Php2,400 depending on what plan you choose. But the best difference is at iPhone 8 Plus Plan 1499 with even a bigger data allocation of 1GB monthly.
Then again, if you want to calculate value then remember you get a Php4,000+ amount of premium subscription with Globe using Spotify, Disney, and Netflix. Something worth considering especially that it’s already there.
Other things to consider
If this is your first time to apply for a postpaid plan, then Smart might have an advantage as they can offer the monthly phone cost along with the postpaid plans at 1499 and above. This means you don’t need a credit card to avail the 0% interest installment for 24 months for the device as it will be included in your monthly payment.
When you are into content like Netflix, Spotify, Disney and more then Globe can offer to include those subscriptions via your postpaid plan. If you are a retainer plan customer, then you can have the phone’s monthly cost included in the postpaid monthly bill. Overall, Globe offers more flexibility in billings, should you want to experience more out of their entertainment packages.
So what’s our reco?
Well, if the price is your ultimate concern then Smart is your choice as they can save you up to Php7,800 pesos. But don’t disregard Globe yet as they have a very compelling content package.
Globe offers up to 6 months subscription to sure hit apps like Spotify, Disney, and Netflix and it’s valued at Php4,000+ which you shouldn’t definitely ignore. Unfortunately, if only Globe offered their GoWatch 10GB as freebie here…then it would be a smash hit to use along with the Netflix and Disney bundle but since it’s not, then you’ll be more aware of your data usage especially one episode of Stranger Things 2 in HD is already 1GB of data based on our experience.
When it comes to calls and text, we think this isn’t much of a factor as we live on a digital life now where our calls and text are now even via Messenger or Viber.
Overall, Smart has a very straightforward offer while Globe is a more experiential for a digital lifestyle. It will be really up to you with your needs, budget and where will you get approved.
