The Snapdragon 450 is Qualcomm’s new mid-range SoC

With Qualcomm’s screen-embedded fingerprint sensor just showcased in MWC 2017 in Shanghai, China, the company isn’t slowing down with innovations with their official unveiling of the Snapdragon 450.

The octa-core Cortex-A53-based processor is the successor to the Snapdragon 450. Instead of a 28nm fabrication process of the 435, the Snapdragon 450 uses a newer 14nm fabrication process to improve energy efficiency, which Qualcomm says that will net phones that will use the Snapdragon 450 processor up to 4 more hours of battery life. Aside from a newer fabrication process and lower power draw, the clock speeds of the Snapdragon 450 have been upped to 1.8GHz.

Paired with the Cortex-A53 is an Adreno 506 GPU, which is supposed to have 25% increase in performance compared to the GPU Adreno 505 in the Snapdragon 435. Of course, Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 is also supported by the Snapdragon 450 for fast charging.

Pairing cameras with the Snapdragon 450 has also been made easier with its support for real-time Bokeh effects, 13+3MP dual camera setups and up to 21MP for a solo camera. Hybrid AF and 1080p 60fps video capture has also been added.

It’s expected that we will be seeing phones that’s equipped with the new Snapdragon 450 SoC by the last quarter of 2017 or early 2018. You can check the full specification of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 through this link.
