Sony has unveiled the FE 28-70mm F2 G Master also known as the SEL2870GM – a premium E-mount lens that boasts an f/2.0 aperture across its entire zoom range to achieve unrivalled performance for both stills and video.
The FE 28-70mm F2 G Master is the first G Master standard zoom lens with a constant f/2.0 aperture, which makes it ideal for both photography and videography. It uses three extreme aspherical elements to ensure high corner-to-corner resolution throughout its zoom range. Sony says that it can focus down to 0.38m at a minimum.
The lens comes with a Nano AR Coating II and its optics are designed to suppress internal reflections to minimize flare and ghosting. Its G Master optics and 11-blade aperture unit promises soft bokeh for dimensional images with its controlled spherical aberration.
Weighing in at around 918g, its Four XS linear motors and algorithm controls the large and heavy focus group. It is fully compatible with the a9 III’s high-speed continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking of up to 120fps even whilst zoomed.
For onboard controls, the SEL2870GM has an adjustable zoom ring torque, an aperture with a ring with click on/off switch, two customizable focus hold buttons, an iris lock switch, and an AF/MF switch. Its filter diameter is 86mm and its lens hood has a window for easy ND filter operation.
The Sony SEL2870GM is now available for pre-order in the Philippines until January 31, 2025. Pre-ordering it nets you a Nitecore BB2 Lens Blower worth PhP 4,990 and 1 Sony GM Premium items package worth PhP 6,000. This promo is available in all participating Sony Centers and authorized retailres nationwide.
Official pricing is yet to be announced, but the lens was launched internationally at $2,899. Direct conversion puts it at around PhP 168,000.
