The Chain Sword is a melee weapon available to most classes by default in all game modes. For Eternal War, when playing as a Vanguard class, you need to reach Veterancy Level 11 to unlock the Chain Sword.
Similar to the Bolt Pistol, the Chain Sword is a widely shared melee weapon in both multiplayer game modes. Upgrading this weapon in Operation allows its upgrades and buffs to be shared between the four different classes. In Eternal War, the Chain Sword is available from the get go for three classes but must be unlocked by the Vanguard class first for it to be used.
It is highly recommended that you upgrade this weapon in the Operations game mode. As all classes can use this weapon and weapon levels are accessible to all classes that can the weapon, an upgraded Chain Sword is usable by most classes. If you wish to speed up leveling of an underleveled class, make sure to equip an upgraded Chain Sword. Note that you also get to unlock cool skins as you do this.
The strength of the Chain Sword is that it does not solely focus on a single stat. It’s good for solo enemies and also against hordes. It’s not a complicated weapon to use and is also worth investing into given that it has different combos that offer a good mix of area attacks and devastating single attacks.
In co-op, you can upgrade the Chain Sword to improve its stats. Take note that upgrading weapons require you to spend Mastery Points and unlock tiers via Armoury Data.
