Steam Stops Paid Mods for Skyrim after Internet Riot

-

Just last week, Steam launched a functionality for developers to allow their mods to be sold on the Workshop. The first game to get the new feature was Skyrim, with more games to follow in the future.

Unfortunately for the company, this did not go so well and broke the internet. Users ranted with a very aggressive tone about the said functionality, even going as far as making the top mod on the store a protest about the paid mods.

With this happening, Steam has stepped back on the feature and removed it from the Skyrim workshop. Those that actually purchased a mod will also receive a full refund.

A post on the company community says the change occurred because “it’s clear we didn’t understand exactly what we were doing” and that it had “underestimated the differences between our previously successful revenue sharing models.”

We don’t have news yet whether the feature will continue for other games, however with this happening, Steam will most likely be stopping this.
