The Toyota Tamaraw is back after an extended hiatus. The iconic Filipino machine has received a face lift and is now sporting a pick-up style base model, but it can be customized to fit any roles that you need such as a camper van, roving ads, service vehicle, or just a regular rugged pickup.
Toyota will first bring in several variants of the Tamaraw such as the FX, the 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic Long Wheelbase Dropside Pickup, and Aluminum Cargo. All three are powered with Toyota’s 2GD-FTV 2.4L Turbodiesel engine that outputs 150HP and 343nm of torque.
The GL Dropside model might be fit for regular drivers. It will sport two passenger seats at the front with 4-way seat adjustment. Toyota also includes a 7-inch infotainment system with Carplay and Android Auto. It measures in at 5,300mm x 1,800 x 1,800 (LWH) and comes with 14- or 16-inch wheels, ABS, electronic brake distribution, and a wheelbase of 3,085mm.
Toyota is also planning to bring a gasoline-based, short wheelbase Tamaraw which will make its way into the country in next year. These version of the Tamaraw will have a 2.0L 1TR-FE Gasoline Engine that will be able to produce 139HP and 183 of torque.
For more business-oriented or service-focused uses, the specialization of the Toyota Tamaraw is its flexibility. It’s a canvas that you can turn into emergency vehicles, patrol vans, camper RV, food truck, or a freezer van.
