UGREEN 65W GaN Charger – Practical Charger vs the MacBook Charger

As a tech expert, the majority of my MAC friends are looking for an adapter as an alternative to their current charger. Either their charger clunked out or the cable is no longer enough durable to be stable.

An original Type-C Adapter from Apple is Php3,290 pesos, quite steep given the concern of budget and it can only charge one device. That’s why I was pleased third-party chargers are now delivering GaN chargers that can deliver the same functionality at an even more and affordable price.

Enter the UGREEN 65W GaN Charger which has 3 USB Type-C ports and 1 Type-A port. This charger can accommodate 65W laptops such as the MacBook Air / Pro M1 / iPad and even smartphones with up to 60W Charging.

Design

The charger is similar to a 65W MacBook charger but a little bit smaller in footprint. But more appealing on the UGREEN charger with a textured criss-cross pattern giving it a non-slippery grip.

The only con I see in this is that the Charger socket is not retractable due to the EU Plug. Overall it’s still smaller and can accommodate more devices.

The UGREEN 65W GaN Charger can support Qualcomm Quick Charge, Power Delivery, AFC Protocol by Samsung, and SCP/FCP used by Huawei Devices.

Charging protocols & Protection

Here are the possibilities that you can do from 1-4 ports. While i

In my experience, there was no overheating or jumping of charging protocols/shorts. The heat is manageable and even no backfire of my devices were overheating.

Experience

While only limited at 65W, I was only able to charge the MacBook Pro alone and wait for it to full before I can charge my other devices such as my smartphone / tablet / TWS / Speaker.

But given the small power requirements of other small gadgets, it was easy to adjust to charge the laptop primarily and secondary on the other devices as a take turn procedure.

Conclusion

Although there was the limitation of charging your laptop and other devices at the same time is not possible, the 65W GaN Charger from UGREEN is still more valuable than purchasing another Type-C adapter from Apple for your MacBook. So we think this gives UGREEN better credit for having more flexibility and affordability.

UGREEN 65W GaN Charger retails for Php1,699 but we suggest you head on the Lazada 11.11 sale to get more value for your purchase with in-app vouchers and deals from checkout partners.
