The Vivo APEX FullView concept smartphone has a 98% screen-to-body ratio

Vivo APEX

Vivo has been pushing increasingly bezelless smartphones with the release of the Vivo V7+ and more recently, the under-the-display fingerprint scanner tech in the X20 Plus UD. In MWC 2018, however, the Chinese company has unveiled another concept smartphone; the APEX.

The Vivo APEX FullView concept smartphone only has 1.8mm top and side bezels, and a 4.3mm bottom bezel; which is the highest screen-to-body ratio in the world of 98%. It is also integrating the under-the-display fingerprint scanner of the X20 Plus UD. Other components that interfere with the screen has been integrated under the display as well.

There is an 8MP front camera that rises up from the screen at just 0.8 seconds and retracts after use. The proximity and ambient light sensor has also been placed under the screen to achieve the 98% screen-to-body ratio.

The APEX FullView also employs the usage a new System in Package (SIP) technology to integrate the DAC and three operational amplifiers together. This allows the circuit board space to be cut by 60% compared to the Xplay 6, which frees up space in the smartphone’s interior.

The Vivo APEX FullView is only a concept smartphone at the moment but this could hail a revolution in smartphone design as it allows for more space for other components such as larger battery size in a smaller space. Hopefully, we’ll see more of Vivo’s concepts in the near future.
