Teased back in Mobile World Congress 2017 in Shanghai, China, Vivo may be ready to release a smartphone with a screen-embedded fingerprint sensor on the display.

A recent press release sent to the media, Vivo is going to exhibit the first ready-to-produce smartphone featuring a fingerprint sensor. Unfortunately, we don’t have much information about the smartphone aside from this new feature. We’ll just have to wait until Vivo announces the device in CES 2018.

Last year’s showing was composed of a Vivo Xplay 6 using Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint technology to allow the display to act as a fingerprint scanner. Qualcomm’s technology can be integrated to an OLED display stack of up to 1.2mm thick and can even work when immersed under water.
